The Soldiers and Sailors Monument

Soldiers and Sailors Monument on Central Hill in Somerville, MA
The bronze and granite monument was dedicated on Memorial Day, 1909 to the soldiers and sailors of Somerville who fell in the Civil War. In his address, then Mayor Woods noted:
"The bronze soldier typifies the glory and strength of the individual citizen who, whether in war or peace, does his duty and makes the nation grand and strong. This bronze female with uplifted hand typifies the protecting care of the flag she holds..."
Somerville Journal, June 4, 1909

The statue is a beautiful addition to Central Hill park, but needs to be conserved!
